Based on May's legendary "Deacy" recording amp that was named for Queen bassist John Deacon and cobbled together from a car radio's amp circuit mounted in a '60s bookshelf speaker cabinet. May collaborated with the Vox design team to create the Special as an amp that would capture the fabulous sonics of the original homegrown unit. It's a 10W combo with a 6-1/2" speaker that replicates every nuance of the original. The Special is equipped with controls for gain, tone, and volume with a high/low gain switch. A Booster section permits driving another amp in the same way May overdrives his AC30s in concert using his famed Treble Booster device.
